Branding package commissioned for a private poker league, Guys Night Poker. The creative brief was primarily centered on the target audience:

Process

Initial concepts - Client insisted on using the “GNP” initials as a monogram for recognizability

Various racingn, motorcycle, and tattoo motifs explored

Follow-up meeting with client added a “Kraken Mascot” specification. Client suggested using tentacles to hold playing cards. Inspiration heavily drawn from Kraken Black Spiced Rum brand.

Began exploring how to form the letters “GNP” with the tentacles.

Further letterform experiments

Attempts at adding dimension to tentacles by weaving them through each other

Decision made to retain simple two dimension style and use symetry in the letterforming

Experiments with encoding the  GNP” monogram symetrically in the tentacles.

Menacing eyes added for dramatic effect. Client approved concept and work proceeded with vectorization.

Decision made to emulate a coin or medallion, since a silver coin is awarded to winners of the poker league.
